Lake Keepit - So Cold, Yet So Beautiful

AS part of my new life adventure, last weekend I visited Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre. Located near Tamworth in the north west of New South Wales, Lake Keepit and its shores are home to many land and water birds and animals. We had heard that it was a beautiful place, but as we arrived well after darkness had fallen, the stunning views waiting for us at sunrise were still a little unexpected.

ASTONISHINGLY for me, the habitual sleepy-head, I was up early (for me), so I wouldn't miss the opportunity to grab a few quick photos in the small window of time available before the events of the day unfolded. This time of the morning (around 7.30am) was magic and well worth the effort.

LAKE Keepit is part of the Keepit Dam system so the water level varies depending on the amount of rainfall in the catchment areas. There are quite a few dead trees in the middle of the lake and I am unsure whether this indicates that the level is high at the moment. Regardless, the lake surrounds provide a medley of vibrant hues, ranging from rich red earth to brown earth; from blue water to blue sky; the vista changed as we walked around the embankment.

    1. Thanks for your kind comments, Robyn. It was quite unexpected to find a lake such as this so far inland :)

  2. Thanks for posting the amazing photos. Lake Keepit looks really low at the moment but hopefully we will have a wet summer and the level will rise. What does your 'new life adventure' entail?

  3. Thanks Lyn, I had no baseline reference point to know where the lake level normally is. On the trip up there, the clouds were circling, but didn't amount to anything. Hopefully there will be lots of rain in the next few months. The other thing I saw there was the amazing night sky. Far away from the light pollution of the city, it was magic to see the myriad of stars alight against the inky, dark background; and the Milky Way looking just as its name implies. Unfortunately I couldn't capture that on camera. As for me, I've hit the books again.
